CardioSpark is a way to “make neighborhoods cardiac safe,” said one of the company’s founders, Tucson cardiologist and mechanical engineer Carter Newton, who is working with many others including co-founder Nick Soloway, a Tucson attorney and entrepreneur.

Dr. Marvin J. Slepian of the UA colleges of Medicine and Engineering and James Wyant, founding dean and professor emeritus of the College of Optical Sciences, will be inducted on April 15 during the annual conference of the National Academy of Inventors at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Arizona Bioindustry Association will honor Marvin J. Slepian, MD, of the University of Arizona with the AZBio Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2017 AZBio Awards. Arizona life science and business leaders, as well as guests from across the country, will be on hand to applaud Dr. Slepian for a body of work that has made life better for people at home and around the world.

While participating in last year's El Tour de Tucson, a competitive long-distance bicycle race, more than a dozen volunteers were simultaneously participating in and conducting a real-world scientific study, one that involved a diminutive device that rapidly and painlessly analyzes body chemistry from sweat.
